ReStore Volunteer FAQs
Q: What is my commitment?
A: Your commitment is up to you! ReStore volunteers are needed daily, so your assistance is always welcome. We ask that volunteers commit to at least a 4 hour shift per workday. We require that volunteers working the cash register/checkout area are trained, regular volunteers.
Q: What skills are required?
A: No specific skills are required to work at the ReStore. Retail experience is handy, but certainly not necessary. ReStore staff will work with volunteers to find a position to best fit each individual’s interests and skills.
Q: What do I need to wear?
A: ReStore volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes.
Q: Is there an age limit to volunteer?
A: ReStore volunteers must be age 16 or older. A parent/legal guardian must complete the Release and Waiver of Liability Form in order for 16 and 17 year old minors to volunteers.
Q: I'm supposed to start at 9:30AM, but the store doesn't open until 10AM. How do I get in?
A: Enter through the Administrative Office entrance and a staff member will let you in.
Q: Can I bring a group along?
A: Certainly, we love to have groups volunteer at the ReStore! We can schedule a special time for your group. Contact our office at (803) 985-9244 to arrange a time. Please note that all volunteer groups must be scheduled in advance.
Q: What will I be doing during my time there?
A: Visit our ReStore Volunteer Opportunities page for more information.
Q: How does my time help Habitat?
A: Volunteers help us operate the ReStore more effectively which allows more of the proceeds to be directed to the work of Habitat for Humanity of York County. If you have a special skill that you think would be helpful to Habitat, but don’t see it listed under the ReStore Volunteer Opportunities, please contact us at (803) 985-9244 to find out where you can help. We can use all types of skills – plumbing, drywall installation and finishing, flooring installation, electrical, data entry, graphic design and everything in between.
