Habitat Homeowner Celebrates Mortgage Burning
Hard working family makes final payment of affordable mortgage to secure financial future
York County, SC (September 11, 2020) – Habitat for Humanity of York County provides hard-working, low wage earners an opportunity to realize the American dream of owning their own home. We are celebrating one such Habitat homeowner who has made their final mortgage payment with a mortgage burning celebration this Monday, September 14 at 12 PM. The Coffey family made their final payment on their 20 year mortgage and now own their home free and clear.
Habitat for Humanity with the financial and volunteer support of businesses, faith communities, civic/service organizations and local foundations build and repair homes that families can afford to live in. Nearly one in six families in the US are spending 50% or more of their income on their housing costs. Financial experts recommend that no more than 30% of your income should be used for housing costs, the model that Habitat follows to insure that Habitat homebuyers will be successful. An affordable mortgage provides financial stability and moves families out of poverty. Too many low income families are paying exorbitant rents that keeps in poverty.
Habitat builds strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter with families. We believe everyone deserves a decent and affordable place to call home. Habitat needs the support of individuals and every segment of our community to make a difference in the lives of children, their families and seniors who desperately need a decent and affordable home in York County.
